This year the theme was "Gerucht", inspired by a painting of the same title by a Dutch painter Joop Moesman (1909-1988). He was also a member of the Kunstliefde Genootschap and was honoured this year in Utrecht in many cultural centres of Utrecht. My work is a comment on fake news and while we love sensation, it never seems to be happening with us or those close to us.
I made a series of objects with the idea that we consider the bad things that may happen to be happening only to others. The word "relax" was also like 'fake news', or a false suggestion, I  was also totally unprepared for the Corona crisis that surprised us all. These works were all made before I had any knowledge of the virus that would sweep the world.
Relax I (2019)
Lightbox with perspex, wood, LED's and electrical plug
with on/off switch. 80x35x15cm
Relax II (2010)
Perspex, wood, nuts & bolts. 45x50x15cm
When I made it, it was just the idea of an escalation in data. This work now make me think of the upward curves we have been witnessing since the virus started to claim lives.
