The tufting gun is an amazing tool to make handmade rugs. They are quite lightweight and easy to operate, but they do take some time to master. As always, I started with somewhat too big a project for a beginner. I could clearly see how my technique got better as I tufted along.
I had to fill up gaps from poor spacing, which became an interesting technique to use again to create shading and texture. So some mistakes could become quite useful!;-))
I worked in a shed with the first carpet and it took up the whole space. I also kept scratching my arms on the razor sharp carpet tacks holding the cloth. The second carpet, however, was made in a studio space and the work was so much easier and I sustained zero injuries!
For this round carpet, I chose some of my favourite colours, but as I worked I changed my mind and decided not to use the accent colour at all.
This carpet turned out nice and thick, made with 100% sheep wool and now in my guest bathroom. Truly a rug for feet, but also a very attractive floor-focal:-)!
